The grooves can be divided into three basic types optimized for finishing, semi-finishing and roughing processes. The figure shows the processing range of various groove shapes based on acceptable chip breaking in relation to feed and cut depth.

1.Rough machining

Combination of large cut depth and high feed rate. A process that requires the highest cutting edge safety.


2.semi-finishing


Semi-finishing to light roughing. Various combinations of cutting depth and feed rate.

3.finishing

A process performed with a small cut depth and low feed rate. Processes requiring low cutting force.
